Victoria Police have released a photo of a man they believe can assist with their inquiries after a hit and run
A female cyclist is dead after being mowed down by a Mercedes in a suspected hit and run in Melbourne‘s inner city.
The stolen white Mercedes sedan clipped another vehicle before rolling onto the cyclist at South Yarra about 10am on Sunday, police said.
The cyclist died at the scene while the male driver ran off. The woman’s age and identity have not yet been revealed.

The driver has been described as aged in his late 20s or early 30s with dark hair and facial hair.
He was wearing dark clothing, including tracksuit pants with a large white Adidas logo on the side.
Bystanders walking down Chapel Street near Grover Street, one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares, watched on in horror as the tragedy unfolded.
Police said the driver also hit two parked cars, before exiting the vehicle and running away.
Store worker Tony Christakakis told the Herald Sun the scene had left him ‘dumbfounded’.

‘I’m gobsmacked, dumbfounded, angry that someone could leave someone.’ he said.
A witness performed CPR on the woman until ambulance workers arrived.
Witnesses took to Twitter to warn others of the incident.
‘A tragic accident has happened this morning with multiple cars smashed up everywhere and the blue tarps are out,’ one person said.
‘Trams and buses have been stopped and all car, foot and bike traffic are being diverted to avoid the area. It’s pretty grim.’
Traffic has been shut down along Chapel Street between Ellis Street and Malvern Road. Diversions are in place.
Trams and buses have also been affected by the crash, as Yarra Trams asks travellers to consider alternative forms of transport.
